Stories of house robbing after status updates on social media sites had become common.

PleaseRobMe.com is a new website that show us how with a relatively simple search engine based on status updates, we can find out who’s home and who’s not and even where people is.

The purpose of the site is to expose the danger we put ourselves in, by sharing publicly our location. We hope that the info available on this site doesn’t end up in the wrong hands.

YouTube Speed Dashboard it’s Google’s latest attempt to take over the world. It’s basically a panel that shows you your Internet connection speed and the one of those around you.

At the time it is just informative, and its only purpose is to show you the real speed with which you watch YouTube videos.

This isn’t a new tool around the web, but it is worth mentioning the fact that it has been released by Google, which indicates that it is part of the company’s efforts to make the Internet a faster net. Considering its new project: Google Fiber for Communities, that’s basically Google’s incursion into Internet providers business, with the highlight that their network is supposed to be ultra-fast.

For those wondering why is Google suddenly so obsessed with speed? Well, the answer is simple: Google’s vision of the future (and present), it’s cloud computing, and it has directed all its efforts (like Chrome O.S. or the SPDY protocol) towards a web that concentrates everyone’s computer information; but to succeed, the data transfer speed must be a lot faster.

Given that Google is the main data and information manager in the web, one doesn’t have to be a genius to connect the dots…

Internet has been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize, the other nominees: a Chinese dissident, and a Russian human rights activist. 

The nomination is the result of a petition made by the italian version of Wired Magazine, in which were cited the Internet’s contributions to “dialogue, debate and consensus through communication.”

It’s an uncommon choice, but it has its’ logic ground as the web has become a prominent tool that has brought people together in the name of numerous civil and humanitarian causes.

Only time will tell if this year’s Nobel winner is as unlikely as last year’s: U.S. president Barack Obama.
