YouTube Speed Dashboard it’s Google’s latest attempt to take over the world. It’s basically a panel that shows you your Internet connection speed and the one of those around you.

At the time it is just informative, and its only purpose is to show you the real speed with which you watch YouTube videos.

This isn’t a new tool around the web, but it is worth mentioning the fact that it has been released by Google, which indicates that it is part of the company’s efforts to make the Internet a faster net. Considering its new project: Google Fiber for Communities, that’s basically Google’s incursion into Internet providers business, with the highlight that their network is supposed to be ultra-fast.

For those wondering why is Google suddenly so obsessed with speed? Well, the answer is simple: Google’s vision of the future (and present), it’s cloud computing, and it has directed all its efforts (like Chrome O.S. or the SPDY protocol) towards a web that concentrates everyone’s computer information; but to succeed, the data transfer speed must be a lot faster.

Given that Google is the main data and information manager in the web, one doesn’t have to be a genius to connect the dots…

Google just announced its new product: Google Buzz.

Buzz it’s Google’s attempt to get into the social media space, it uses Gmail as a platform. The service it’s a combination of Twitter and Facebook wall, it allow us to update our status and share content with our friends and the world.

Google Buzz lets you:

• Automatically add you Gmail contacts to your network.
• Share content publicly or privately.
• Gmail Inbox integration, so all your messages go directly into your inbox.
• Attach thumbnails and full sized pictures into any post.
• Connect to other sites like Flickr, Picasa, Twitter, etc.; and import your media.
• See real-time updates without having to refresh your browser window.

It also recommends you posts that you might find interesting.

Buzz also works on cellphones, you can access Google.com from any mobile browser. One of the features it’s that it locates your position with just one click.

Buzz has the potential to become the next big social media, because it integrates the main features of other successful social networks into one platform: Google. But first, it has to persuade the users to try it and add the “social” into its new media.

Upgrade to version 2.1 of Android mobile O.S. will be available for Motorola Droid users as soon as this week.

New features include:

• Google Goggles pre installed.
• The browser’s multitouch enabled. Still no Flash.
• No interactive home screen or wallpapers.

Apparently, it’s based on the Android 2.1 that runs in the Nexus One, but it’s no quite the same.

Panasonic has taken the lead in 3D home entertainment technology.

Engadget announced the release of Blu-Ray 3D Recorders; including the DMR-BWT3000 (2TB), DMR-BWT2000 (1TB), y DMR-BWT1000 (750GB). Available in stores in mid April.

This recorders join the list of 3D home entertainment products of the brand, which includes Blu-Ray 3D players and Full HD 3D screens. It also complements the opening of its first Blu-ray 3D authoring facility, announced last week.

As it seems, Panasonic it’s determined to make 2010 the year of Full HD 3D Home Entertainment.

Internet has been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize, the other nominees: a Chinese dissident, and a Russian human rights activist. 

The nomination is the result of a petition made by the italian version of Wired Magazine, in which were cited the Internet’s contributions to “dialogue, debate and consensus through communication.”

It’s an uncommon choice, but it has its’ logic ground as the web has become a prominent tool that has brought people together in the name of numerous civil and humanitarian causes.

Only time will tell if this year’s Nobel winner is as unlikely as last year’s: U.S. president Barack Obama.

EyeStop is the bus stop of the future, it was created by MIT engineers, and among all the things the system can do, it can show you the shortest way home.

The bus stop is solar powered,  it’s covered with screens and e-Ink ( an example of e-Ink used on an issue of Esquire magazine, featured below), and it’s connected to the Internet.

EyeStop shows users the exact location of the bus they’re waiting for, finds the shortest bus route, checks the air quality, browse the web and even displays advertisement and community announcements.

Again, it was created by the MIT, and presented at the Genio Fiorentino Festival in Florence. October is the tentative date for the first formal prototype.
